Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how MaskIt (“MaskIt,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the MaskIt mobile application, this support website, and related services (together, the “Services”).
MaskIt analyzes and masks video frames on your device. We do not upload your source videos, exported videos, face images, license plates, or detection coordinates to our servers for masking.
Information we handle
Videos and device media
When you choose a video, record footage, preview an edit, or save an export, MaskIt accesses the selected media only to provide that feature. Processing occurs on your device. Depending on the feature and platform, MaskIt may request access to your photo library, camera, microphone, and media files. Video files and temporary editing files remain on your device unless you choose to share them using another service. Face detection is performed on-device and produces only temporary bounding-box coordinates that are discarded when the session ends; MaskIt does not collect, store, upload, or share face data.
Account information
If you create or use an account, we may receive and store your email address, name, profile image URL, verification status, and an identifier associated with your sign-in method. When you use Google or Apple sign-in, those providers process your sign-in and provide the account details you authorize them to share. Email verification codes are temporarily stored while they remain valid.
Purchases and entitlements
Apple or Google processes your payment. We may receive and store the platform, product, transaction or original transaction identifier, purchase token or limited receipt data, purchase and expiry dates, and verification status so we can activate, verify, and restore Premium access. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
Limited app activity
To operate free-use limits and Premium access, we may store your rewarded-ad count and timestamp, platform, access type, selected clip duration, and number of regions selected for masking. These records do not contain the video itself, face or plate images, detection coordinates, filenames, or the identity of people shown in a video.
Advertising data
The free version may display rewarded ads through Google Mobile Ads. MaskIt requests non-personalized ads. Google and its partners may nevertheless process information such as your IP address, device or advertising identifiers, general device information, ad interactions, and approximate location inferred from network information to provide, secure, measure, and limit ads. Google handles that information under its own policies and consent requirements.
Support and website information
If you contact support, we receive the name, email address, topic, message, and other information you choose to include. Our hosting and security systems may also process IP addresses, request details, timestamps, and basic device or browser information in server logs. This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies at the time this policy was last updated.
Information stored locally
MaskIt stores app settings, authentication session information, and Premium entitlement status on your device. Your operating system may retain other local files, permissions, or backups according to your device and cloud-backup settings.
How we use information
We use information only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide on-device video selection, masking, preview, and export features;
- create and secure accounts and authenticate sign-ins;
- activate, verify, restore, and administer subscriptions;
- operate free-use and rewarded-ad limits;
- respond to support requests and troubleshoot problems;
- protect the Services, prevent fraud or abuse, and enforce our terms;
- maintain, diagnose, and improve reliability; and
- comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.
Retention and security
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including providing your account, maintaining subscription and transaction records, responding to support, preventing abuse, and meeting legal, tax, accounting, or security obligations. Email verification codes expire after approximately 15 minutes. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it, subject to backup cycles and lawful retention requirements.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections and restricted access to production systems. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- You can grant or withdraw camera, microphone, and photo-library access in your device settings. Some features will not work without the relevant permission.
- You can sign out to remove the active MaskIt session from the app. Uninstalling the app generally removes locally stored app data, subject to device backups.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account.
- You can decline to submit a support form and contact us by email instead.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information we hold, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. To delete your account and its associated data, open My Account in the MaskIt app or use our dedicated account deletion page. We verify control of the account email using a time-limited confirmation link. Store subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple or Google. Some records may be retained where required by law or necessary for security, fraud prevention, or transaction accounting.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
International processing
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers and handle information according to this policy and applicable law.
Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide additional notice where required.
